Director of Ezombolo online newspaper arrested

The director of the independent weekly Ezombolo Jean de Dieu Ndoutoume, was arrested Tuesday morning at his home in Libreville.

If the reasons for the arrest remain unknown for the time being, there is information that he is being held at B2, the intelligence service of the Gabonese army.

It is believed that the satirical tone of the online newspaper against Ali Bongo could be the cause of the arrest.

A journalist whose arrest comes a day after an announcement regarding the project of a legislation to decriminalize press offenses. The Minister in charge of Communication, Denise Mekam’ne said on Sunday that a draft law on the exercise of freedom of communication in Gabon was currently under review.
