Gabon’s Sport Minister Blaise Louembet reassures member of parliament on AFCON 2017 deadlines last Friday, June 26th on the questions about Gabon, hosting the 2017 AFCON. “The Gabonese government took political commitments before the African Football Confederation (CAF) and they will stand by it”, he added “our candidacy respect the grievance list of the CAF which states the building of all infrastructures needed to host the 2017 AFCON like in 2012”.

It is the MP Aexandre Youbangoye Mbila from Lébombi-Léyou (in the East south of Gabon) who called for the minister in order to give a final report of deadlines given to Gabon knowing that only 16 months left and that the bigger tasks are not done yet especially on the building of Oyem (in the North) and Port-Gentil (West) stadiums to host the AFCON.

For the MP, it is relevant to know how Gabon will finance this AFCON knowing that this event was not included in this year budget. And that if we add it on next year budget, deadlines will be too short to host it. The minister kept on by saying that the country cannot turn back and there is just the two stadiums to build because the 2012 tasks still exist. It is a very big challenge for Gabon.
