The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) have proposed last April 20th to withdraw most whales humpback in the world’s list of endangered species, after 45 years of conservation.

The proposal to remove this species from endangered animals will allow more than two-thirds of these mammals to no longer be included in the category of endangered species. “This is a success story of having brought this species to a point where the population is doing well and doesn’t need to be classified as endangered yet”. It demonstrates the effectiveness of protection and conservation, conduct by organizations through civic actions in the world’” , said the Director of the NOAA Fisheries protected resources, Donna Wieting.

Humpback whales are found in all the seas of the world. They weigh between 25 and 40 tones and can measure 20 meters long. The last time that NOAA has withdrawn a species from the list of endangered due to its recovery was in 1994, it was the grey whale.
