Unesco and Airtel launch “Train my generation”

The Unesco and mobile operator Airtel officially launched the Educational project “Train my generation” last May 4th. The Education Minister Ida Reteno Assonouet chaired the ceremony.

Airtel Gabon financed 2.4 billion of the project which aims at training 5000 young Gabonese, aged 18 to 35, over a period of 3 years to better use of ITCs.

The project tackles 4 main steps, introduction to computer, tutoring by (E-Learning), support to youth entrepreneurship and support occupations through training in specialized field.

For the first stepn of the project, it was expected, the creation of cyber-centres equipped with servers and computers in schools of Libreville, Port Gentil, Oyem, Franceville, Bitam and Lambaréné.

Airtel called the participation of Unesco for this training of the Gabonese youth under the expertise of the Organization in the promotion of technology and knowledge-based innovation. A partnership agreement, very appreciated by Irina Bokova, Director General of Unesco, had signed to this effective October 17th.
