Education Minister reassures expatriate teachers

Gabon’s Education Minister Ida Reteno Assonouet denounced last Wednesday in Libreville the National Teachers Union’s intimidation on expatriate teachers and reaffirmed the Government’s support for those teachers.

"The Government needs expatriate teachers in its national education system. They should not be the target of some Union leaders that claim for the educational crisis to get worse", said Reteno Assonouet at the end of a hearing she granted to the expatriate teachers Union.

On the instruction of Gabon’s Head of State she added, "All measures have been taken and the authors will be case after case accountable for their acts."

As for him, Gabon’s expatriate teachers Union’s chair, Clément Kinzo, said that it is not question for their Union to boycott the national teachers union’s strike, but rather to obey to the respect of the charge specifications signed between the Gabonese Government and the expatriate teachers for the a good running of the school year.
